Which power of attorney do I need?
It depends on what the agent must do. A general POA written in general terms gives acts of management only, so for a sale, a settlement or a court case we list each act by name.

Before a notary, in person or by video. Dubai has more than one notarial route, and the right one depends on the document and on where you are. We check this before we book.

Do I need it in Arabic?
Yes. A notarised instrument in Dubai is in Arabic. An English text is accepted only with an Arabic translation by a certified translator, signed together (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27).

The federal schedule adds AED 50 per page when a translation is notarised with the instrument (Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024, item 11).

Government fees above are from Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024. The Dubai private notary route has its own fees: AED 100 per party for registration plus AED 100 per signature. Our prices page lists each document.

Is a notary public in Dubai the same as a lawyer?
Not always. The Dubai Courts notary public is the government notary. A private notary in Dubai is a lawyer licensed by Dubai Courts as a private notary and registered on its roll, who carries out the notarial functions assigned under Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013.
Do I have to go to Dubai Courts in person?
Not always. Dubai Courts provides for virtual attendance as well as personal attendance for POA attestation, and the Ministry of Justice runs the E-Notary System for remote sessions. Which option you can use depends on the document and on your ID.
How long is a power of attorney valid in the UAE?
For as long as the document says. UAE law does not set one fixed validity period for every POA; it ends when the task is done, when its stated term runs out, on death or loss of capacity, or when the principal revokes it. Some authorities apply their own acceptance rules, so we check the receiving office.
Can I sign a POA from outside the UAE?
Yes, in several ways: before an accredited UAE consul where you live, through a remote session where the document type allows it, or before a local notary followed by attestation in that country, by the UAE embassy there and by MOFAIC here.
What should I bring to the signing?
Your original passport, and your Emirates ID if you are a UAE resident; the agent's ID details for a POA; the document the power relates to, such as the car registration card, title deed, trade licence or case number; and the final bilingual draft we sent you, unsigned.
Can I do it without you?
Sometimes. The Ministry of Justice digital power of attorney service issues some POA types online. If your matter is inside the DIFC, the DIFC Courts Notary Service is the route. We will tell you if one of these applies when you call.
