NOC from father to sponsor the child by mother: signing it in Dubai or abroad

A NOC from the father to sponsor the child by the mother is a signed letter in which the father states that he has no objection to the mother sponsoring their child's UAE residence visa. Where the father is decides how he signs it: before our in-house notary public in Dubai, before a UAE consul abroad, or before a notary in his country followed by attestation.

At a glance

We draft the NOC, prepare the Arabic, and notarise it in person at Business Bay, online, or at home. Service is available 24/7. Send the child's details and the father's location on WhatsApp +971 52 947 5935.

The NOC is the father's own statement. Nobody else can sign it for him unless he gave them a power of attorney that names that act.

In the UAE it is made as a signature authentication (federal fee AED 200 per party) or an affidavit (AED 300), depending on the wording the receiving office wants.

From abroad, the father signs before a UAE consul, or before a local notary followed by attestation by his country's foreign ministry, the UAE embassy there and MOFAIC.

The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone does not replace that chain.

If the father refuses, a notary cannot help. The question goes to the personal status court.

In short

When this NOC is asked for

The usual case is a mother with her own residence and income who sponsors the child herself, while the father lives elsewhere. The immigration office may then want to see that the father agrees. Whether it does is the office's rule, so check with the authority handling the visa, or the typing centre submitting the application, before you prepare anything.

Checklist

What the NOC must say

A no objection certificate for a child visa in the UAE that is too short gets sent back. Ours include:

What the NOC must say

  • The father's full name exactly as in his passport, his nationality, passport number and Emirates ID number if he has one.
  • The mother's full name, nationality, passport number and Emirates ID number.
  • The child's full name, date of birth and passport number.
  • One plain sentence that the father has no objection to the mother sponsoring the child's residence visa in the UAE.
  • The place and date of signing, and the father's signature.

How to write a NOC letter from the father

Keep it to one page. Start with who is writing and to whom. State the relationship to the child and give the identity details above. Put the permission in one clear sentence. Avoid conditions such as "as long as", because a conditional NOC may be refused. Sign only in front of the notary or consul, never before.

Signing in the UAE

If the father is in the UAE, he signs before our in-house notary public at Business Bay, in an online session, or at home with our home visit service. He brings his original passport and Emirates ID, and the notary confirms his identity and consent.

The notarised instrument in Dubai is in Arabic. An English NOC needs an Arabic translation by a certified translator, signed with the original (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27). We prepare the bilingual version so he signs both at once.

Signing from abroad

  1. Online session, if your document qualifies. We tell you before you book.
  2. Before a UAE consul in his country. Accredited UAE consuls can perform notarial duties (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 3).
  3. Before a notary in his country, then attestation by his foreign ministry, the UAE embassy or consulate there, and MOFAIC. MOFAIC attests originals in Arabic or English, or with a legally certified translation, and will not attest a laminated document.

We send the father the exact wording to take with him.

If the father will not sign

A notary records what a person agrees to sign. If the father refuses, no notary can sign in his place, and a letter from a relative does not replace his. The route is an application to the personal status court at Dubai Courts, usually through a lawyer. That lawyer needs a power of attorney that names pleading before the court. See our court case POA page.

Watch for

Mistakes to avoid

  • The father's name does not match his passport, or is in a different order.
  • The NOC names an expired child passport.
  • The father signs abroad but skips the embassy or MOFAIC step.
  • The English NOC has no Arabic translation.

How we help

How we help

We have an in-house notary public at our Business Bay office, and we offer in person, online and home visit notary public services. We draft the NOC with every detail the immigration office reads, and check the attested document when it arrives from abroad. For other NOC types, see the NOC letter guide. Questions

Questions about the father's NOC

Is a NOC from the father always needed when the mother sponsors?

It depends on the immigration authority's current rules and the family's situation. Check before you prepare it.

Can the father sign the NOC in his home country?

Yes, before a UAE consul there, or before a local notary and then attestation by his foreign ministry, the UAE embassy and MOFAIC.

Does the NOC need to be in Arabic?

For a notary in Dubai, yes: Arabic, or English with an Arabic translation by a certified translator, both signed.

Can the father give someone a POA to sign the NOC?

Only if the POA expressly gives that act. It is usually simpler for the father to sign the NOC himself.

What if the parents are divorced?

Bring the divorce and custody papers to the application, and ask the immigration office what it accepts.
