UAE law names two working types, general and special. A general POA in general terms covers acts of management only (Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 871).
Selling, mortgaging, pleading in court, settling and arbitration need a special POA that names the act (Article 870).
The notary checks identity, capacity and consent, and the instrument is in Arabic (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27).
The federal fee to execute or notarise a general or special POA is AED 100 per party (Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024, item 9).
UAE law sets no fixed number of years for a POA. It lasts for the term written in it, until the job is done, or until it is revoked.

Signing from abroad
If you are outside the UAE, you can sign in an online session where your document allows it, before an accredited UAE consul (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 3), or before a local notary followed by attestation by that country's foreign ministry, the UAE embassy there and MOFAIC. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille on its own does not make a foreign POA usable here.
Which court makes a power of attorney for a business in Dubai? For an onshore company it is a Dubai notary, as for a person. A DIFC company uses the DIFC Courts notary service for matters inside the DIFC.

Questions about power of attorney in Dubai
How long is a power of attorney valid in Dubai?
The law sets no general period. It lasts for the term written in it, until the work is done, until either person dies or loses capacity, or until you revoke it (Article 897).
Can I cancel a POA I have given?
Yes, at any time, unless it protects a third party or serves the agent's interest (Article 898). Tell the agent in writing. See how to cancel a power of attorney.
Does the agent have to be in Dubai?
No, but the agent's Emirates ID number or passport details go into the document.
Can one POA cover several things?
Yes, if each act is named. Separate POAs are easier to hand over and to cancel one by one.
