Sharjah notary public office: where to sign, what to bring and what it costs
Notary work in Sharjah runs under the federal system. Sharjah follows the federal judiciary, so the Sharjah notary public office works under Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022 and the UAE Ministry of Justice, not under a local court of its own the way Dubai and Abu Dhabi do. In practice you have three federal routes: the public notary, a licensed private notary, or the Ministry of Justice E-Notary System for remote signing.
This guide is written by NotaryPublicInDubai.com. We have an in-house notary public at our Business Bay office in Dubai, and we offer in person, online and home visit notary public services, 24/7. If you live or work in Sharjah, you can also sign with us in Dubai, once the authority that will receive the document confirms it accepts a Dubai notarisation.

Who handles notary work in Sharjah
The UAE has two kinds of judicial system. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah run their own judicial departments, each with its own notary service. Sharjah does not. It sits in the federal system with Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, and notary work there follows the federal notary law and the Ministry of Justice.
That matters for three things: the fee schedule that applies (the federal one), the online channel you can use (the Ministry of Justice E-Notary System), and the rules a private notary in Sharjah works under (the same federal law as everywhere else in the federal emirates).
Office locations and hours change, so take the current Sharjah notary office details from the Ministry of Justice website on the day you plan to go.
Your routes to a notarised document
| Route | When it suits you |
|---|---|
| Public notary under the Ministry of Justice | You want the government counter and your document is ready to sign |
| Licensed private notary on the federal roll | You want a private office and a set appointment time, at AED 130 per party for a POA |
| Ministry of Justice E-Notary System | You cannot attend in person and your document type is offered online |
| Our in-house notary public in Business Bay | You live or work near Dubai, or want us to prepare the document and handle the signing in one place |
Whichever route you choose, the paperwork is the same. The notary checks who you are, confirms you understand and agree to the document, and then notarises it. The notary does not write the document for you.
Checklist
What to bring
What to bring
- Your original Emirates ID, or your passport if you do not hold UAE residency.
- The document itself, final and unsigned.
- An Arabic version, or an Arabic translation by a legal translator registered with the Ministry of Justice, if the document is in another language.
- The supporting papers the document refers to, such as a title deed, a vehicle ownership certificate or a trade licence.
- For a company matter, proof that the person signing has authority to sign for the company.
- For a power of attorney, the full name and ID details of the person you are appointing.
Check every name against the passport or Emirates ID before you go. A name that does not match the ID exactly has to be corrected before the notary can go ahead.
Fees for a notary in Sharjah
Because Sharjah follows the federal system, the federal fee schedule in Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024 applies.
| Notary act | Federal fee |
|---|---|
| General or special power of attorney | AED 100 per party |
| The same POA through a private notary | AED 130 per party (the fee plus 30 percent) |
| Executing and notarising an affidavit | AED 300 |
| Authenticating signatures on an instrument of unspecified value | AED 200 per party |
| Notarising a translation included in the instrument | AED 50 per page |
These are government fees. They are paid at cost and are the same whoever prepares your document. Our own service price for a power of attorney starts from AED 1,500, with the government fee on top. All service prices are starting prices and are negotiable. See the fees page for every document and the power of attorney cost guide for worked examples.
Documents going abroad
Notarisation confirms the signature and the identity of the person signing. If the document will be used in another country, it usually needs MOFAIC attestation as a separate step. MOFAIC's customer happiness centres are closed and attestation is done online, so there is no counter to visit in Sharjah for this step. The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone will not do for a UAE document.
In short
Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain
These three emirates are in the same federal system as Sharjah, so the same routes, fees and E-Notary System apply. If you are based in one of them, tell us your document and where it will be used, and we tell you whether to sign locally, online or with our in-house notary public in Business Bay.

How we help
How we help
We prepare the document, arrange the Arabic and notarise it with our in-house notary public, in person at Business Bay, online, or at your home, 24/7. Before you sign, ask the authority that will receive the document whether it accepts a Dubai notarisation. The receiving authority has the final word. See our power of attorney page, online notary page and the power of attorney from abroad guide if the person signing is outside the UAE.
